How to measure your windows
Measure the width of your rod or track and the drop to the floor, then choose how the curtains meet the floor.
- 1
Get ready
You need a steel tape measure (a cloth tape can stretch and throw your numbers off), a notepad and a step ladder.
What we include
Heavy-duty metal drapery pin hooks come with your curtains, made for our two-pinch pleats with back tabs.
What you provide
Your own rod, rings or track.
- 2
Measure the width
Our pleats are sewn in, so there is no fullness to work out. Order panels that together match the width of your rod or track.
- Measure the rod or track from end to end. Leave out the decorative finials on the ends of a rod.
- Divide by two for the width of each panel. A 100 inch rod takes two 50 inch panels.
Putting up new hardware? Let the rod run 6 to 12 inches past the window frame on each side. The window looks bigger, and the curtains clear the glass when they are open.
- 3
Measure the drop, if your hardware is already up
Measure from your hardware straight down to the floor:
- Track: from the very top of the track.
- Rod with rings: from the small eyelet at the bottom of a ring, where the pin hooks on.
- Back tabs, straight on the rod: from the very top of the rod.

Measure the drop, if your hardware is not up yet
If you are ordering before your rod or track goes up, work out where it will sit.
- Mark the height. Pencil a line where the top of the rod or track will be. For a standard look, that is 4 to 6 inches above the window frame.
- Measure the drop from that line straight down to the floor.
- Allow for the hardware. With rings, take off 1 to 1.5 inches, because the curtain hangs a little below the rod. With a ceiling track or back tabs, take nothing off: order the measurement as it is.

Choose how the curtains meet the floor
Adjust the length you order to the look you want:
- Hover: take ½ inch off your floor measurement. The curtains hang just clear of the floor, for a clean look.
- Kiss: use your floor measurement as it is. The curtains just touch the floor.
- Puddle: add 1 to 3 inches. The extra fabric pools softly on the floor.
